This apple pie is made with fresh, crisp apples, sautéed in brown sugar, apple spice, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemon zest and Irish cream liquor. Serve with vainilla ice cream or whipped cream cheese, topped with apple syrup, and you will have the best Holiday dessert.
Apple pie is a classic for Holidays or celebrations, my family loves it and they always request apple pie for Holidays.
I normally make homemade crust, for this recipe I used a package refrigerated pie crust.
This recipe is not your normal or traditional recipe, I like to sauté the apples with several spices, cinnamon and liquor not only to create a great syrup but to soften the apples before placing them into the pie crust to bake.
By doing this process, the pie crust will only bake faster, and this is what gives the rich, deep flavor.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 store pie crust package
Filling
2 1/2 pounds green apples, peeled and sliced
1 red apple, peeled and sliced
1 lemon
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon apple spice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon flour to thicken the apple juices
Toppings:
vainilla ice cream or whipped cream cheese
cinnamon
apple syrup
Instructions:
Buy 2 pie refrigerated crust packages, you will need two for the pie and one extra to create the holiday designed leaves or décor.
Cut the apples.

In a large cast iron or skillet, melt the butter over medium high heat. Add the apples, sugar, apple spice, ginger, nutmeg, salt, cinnamon, lemon zest and liquor. Cook over medium heat, stirring often for about 5-8 minutes or until the apples are softened. Prepare the flour with water and add to the apples to thicken the sauce.

Let cool at room temperature before applying to the crust.
Preheat oven 400 F
Fit 1 piecrust into a 9 -inch pie dish, pierce the crust with a fork.
Layer apple filling into prepared pie crust, place top layer pie dough over the apples. Seal the crust edges with desired pattern.
Use one prepared pie crust to create the top design of your choice. I cut Holiday's leaves and used food red coloring to color the little balls.

Decorate the pie top and then make egg wash by whisking together egg and water. Brush over pie crust.

Bake pie at 400 F for 18 - 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Remove it from the oven and let it cool for 30 minutes before serving.
Apply toppings: ice cream, or whipped cream cheese, sprinkle cinnamon and syrup from
the apples.
